Like other milestones in civil liberties legislation, the acceptance of interracial wedding has barely been a smooth, celebrated or instantly procedure.
Apparently unfathomable, just 50 years back it had been unlawful for blacks and whites to marry in 16 states as a result of “anti-miscegenation” guidelines. Nevertheless the Supreme Court redirected history whenever it hit straight down guidelines prohibiting interracial wedding, on June 12, 1967, in Loving v. Virginia.
Mildred and Richard Loving, but, are not really the only courageous interracial couple to make headlines that 12 months.
